A SIP CHANNEL
IS A VIRTUAL
COMMUNICATION PATH
FOR CALLS.
SIP Channels
Frontier’s SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) Trunks or Channels are compatible with and widely used by leading phone systems and providers in Canada and the USA.
SIP channels provide several benefits for communication systems:
- Cost Savings: SIP trunks offer significant cost savings compared to traditional phone lines. This is because SIP trunks allow businesses to use their existing internet connection to make and receive calls, eliminating the need for separate voice lines.
- Scalability: SIP trunks are highly scalable, meaning businesses can easily add or remove channels as needed to accommodate changes in call volume or business growth.
- Geographic Flexibility: With SIP trunks, businesses can easily set up virtual phone numbers in any geographic location. This allows businesses to establish a local presence in new markets without the need for a physical office or location.
- Enhanced Features: SIP channels support a range of enhanced communication features such as video conferencing, instant messaging, and presence status. This can help businesses improve collaboration and productivity.
- Disaster Recovery: SIP trunks offer a disaster recovery solution that traditional phone lines do not. In the event of a network outage or natural disaster, calls can be easily rerouted to another location, ensuring business continuity.

How many SIP Channels do you need?
You need at least one SIP channel for every call happening at a given time. So, for example, 50 simultaneous calls will require 50 channels.
Your existing phone system can likely support native or software-based delivery of SIP Channels. However, for those who do not, Frontier can supply a gateway that will convert SIP Channels into the legacy interfaces supported by your phone systems.
